'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3': Zoe Saldaña "Wouldn't Be Upset" If She Never Played Gamora Again

Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Drax, Rocket, Gamora, and the gang return to the big screen in “Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3” next May. And if Gamora actress Zoe Saldaña had her way, the upcoming film would be the last time she ever plays Thanos’ ex-assassin.

EW reports (via Variety) that Saldaña would be okay with never going through the grueling prep to dress up as Gamora again. “I can never say no to anything, but that green makeup? I wouldn’t be upset if it didn’t happen again,” Saldaña told Variety in a recent interview. “I miss Gamora, but I don’t miss 3:30 a.m. calls and five-hour makeup sessions and trips to the dermatologist afterwards.”

So, no more Gamora spots for Saldaña, not even a cameo? Even if the actress doesn’t want to, she nonetheless understands how much the MCU means to its fans. “Every time that you know that 8-year-old or that dad and mom or those generational fans that remind me that what I did was special to them, it makes me not be cynical about Marvel,” Saldaña continued. “It makes me understand that younger audiences should stop being overlooked. They have feelings too and if something impacts them, just because we consider it stupid or immature or cheeky, doesn’t mean it’s not special.”

Saldaña reprises her Gamora role in James Gunn‘s “Vol. 3,” out in theaters May 5, 2023. It’s the final “Guardians” film in the MCU. How does the actress feel about that? [Filming] started bitter in the beginning cause obviously you’re anticipating the end, but I’m just so happy that once again I got to work with great people,” Saldaña explained in another interview with EW last month. “I had an evolution that I witnessed of myself, but also my director and my cast. I just felt very blessed and grateful. It was a very sweet departure, I have to say.”

So, even if “Vol. 3” is the last time Saldaña plays Gamora, she’s leaving the character, the “Guardians” franchise, and the MCU on a high note. But never say never to a future Gamora cameo…
