'Halo': Pablo Schreiber To Play Master Chief In Upcoming Showtime TV Adaptation

In the “Halo” video game series, no one really knows what the lead character, Master Chief, looks like. But for the upcoming Showtime TV series, we do know what he’ll look like. He’s going to look a lot like actor Pablo Schreiber.

According to Deadline, Showtime has hired Schreiber to star in the highly-anticipated video game adaptation coming sometime next year. The series, based on “Halo” mega-franchise, is expected to follow the adventures of the aforementioned Master Chief as he leads his soldiers against the aliens known as The Covenant. Along the way, he’ll come in contact with a new character, Quan Ah, played by newcomer Yerin Ha.

Schreiber is probably best known for his role on the Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.” He’s also been seen in series like “The Brink” and “American Gods.” He also was in the recent action film “Den of Thieves.”

It’s taken quite a number of years for “Halo” to finally come to live-action. Sure, there have been previous webseries and ads featuring real humans in various roles, but never before has the main story been brought to life until now. For years, “Halo” was set up as a potential film franchise, with filmmakers like Neill Blomkamp and Peter Jackson attached. Hell, even Steven Spielberg was interested in one point.

Then the choice was made to bring “Halo” to TV and the production hired Rupert Wyatt to tackle the directing duties, but he eventually left. Now, Otto Bathurst is attached to direct several episodes, with Kyle Killen writing. Killen and Steven Kane are set to be producers and co-showrunners.

No word on a release date for the series, but “Halo” is expected to finally get into production later this year.
