With Marvel showing Hollywood how its done, setting up their movie series in Phases, signing up actors with extended contracts and creating an ever expanding tentpole universe, everyone else is following suit. Over at Fox, the X-Men series just keeps getting bigger, while they’ve also already announced a “Fantastic Four” sequel before the first movie has even shot a frame. And now Warner Bros. are promising to do the same, with big news apparently around the corner.
The New York Times recently sat down with WB honcho Kevin Tsujihara to talk about the studio’s future plans, and it was revealed that “a film series will be announced in the near future… It is expected to include a ‘Justice League‘ movie.” Of course, this is hardly a shock, and last year reports surfaced that said a “Flash” movie was being aimed for 2016, with “Justice League” to follow in 2017. And with “Batman Vs. Superman” pushed back to 2016, that new space certainly gives time for WB to start world-building Marvel style.
No word yet on when WB will drop their juicy details of what superhero stuff they have coming, but Comic-Con isn’t too far away….
And speaking of world building, WB isn’t just content to supersize their superhero slate. In the same article, it’s revealed that the previously announced J.K. Rowling penned “Harry Potter” spinoff series “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them” will be a trilogy. Or as the NYT describes it: “three megamovies.” Because, obviously. Just don’t expect Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson to show up. The events in this new series of films takes places 70 years before the boy wizard shows up and will instead focus on Newt Scamander, a “magizoologist.”
So, in short, big things coming from WB, and it looks like multiplex offerings are going to keep getting bigger and bigger….
