Henry Cavill Explains Why He Hasn't Shown Support For #ReleaseTheSnyderCut: "I Have Not Seen Any Snyder Cut"

The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut drama has been reignited over the past few weeks, thanks to an unprecedented show of support from actors involved with “Justice League” using the hashtag to promote the 2-year anniversary of the film’s release. But if you were paying attention, when Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, and Ray Fisher shared their support for Zack Snyder’s unreleased version of the superhero film, there was one notable name that didn’t — Henry Cavill.

And in a series of interviews, while promoting “The Witcher,” it’s clear that Cavill’s lack of #ReleaseTheSnyderCut support isn’t as cut and dry as you might think.

“I wouldn’t say there’s any particular reason,” said Cavill. “I mean, I miss my mustache, which is the most important thing. For me, it was just a harrowing reminder I didn’t have it anymore. And so, I just didn’t want to dig that wound any deeper.”

Well, thankfully for fans of “Justice League” and Zack Snyder, Kevin McCarthy sat down with Cavill and did dig a bit deeper. And what he found isn’t a Cavill that’s interested in skirting the issue. Instead, it’s a Superman actor that just wants to play Superman in a brand-new “Superman” film and doesn’t really care about rehashing a previous film.

“I have not seen any Snyder cut. I don’t know if there’s anything that exists that is a ‘Snyder Cut.’ I’m sure there’s footage out there that has been pieced together over the years. I’m always interested to see how that stuff turns out but that is very much a chapter of my past. I’d rather talk about what’s going to happen in the future, the future of Superman. How can I express that character from the comic books, which ties in nicely with ‘Man of Steel.’”

He continued, “‘Man of Steel,’ I really like that movie, and I’d really like to tell that story of where it was left, at that point…it would, indeed, be awesome.”

You can probably read between the lines and see what Cavill is saying in that answer. Whether it was a studio mandate, Snyder’s choice, or a mixture of both, the actor is bummed that he was never actually able to make a “Man of Steel 2” and probably isn’t so pleased with how the films that came after his solo picture ended up.

As you might expect, the word that the Snyder Cut is being talked about once again has not only woken up the faithful followers of the director that have been demanding its release since 2017, but also the filmmaker himself. As he’s wont to do, Zack Snyder went to Vero (still a thing) and refuted any claims that the Snyder Cut doesn’t exist. How does he do that? Well, with a big ol’ picture of the actual cans of film that you would assume contain the elusive cut of “Justice League.”

But as we come to the close of another piece about the “Justice League” Snyder Cut, it’s important to reiterate that there seems to be no plans at WB to release it anytime soon, if at all. So, let’s continue to take the director’s Vero posts for what they actually are — random posts about a cut of a film that may never see the light of day. Definitely not a promise of something to come.
