'Honeyland' Trailer: The Most Awarded Film At This Year's Sundance Comes To Theaters Next Month

On paper, the new documentary, “Honeyland,” might not sound like a film event that everyone should go out of their way to experience. However, “Honeyland” left the 2019 Sundance Film Festival with an armful of awards and critical reviews that were nothing short of spectacular.

Now, NEON is ready to release “Honeyland” in theaters, and for folks that didn’t get a chance to watch the film earlier this year at the fest, the new trailer is our first look at the beautiful, mesmerizing story of a woman who uses old-world methods for cultivating honey.

“Honeyland” follows Hatidze, who lives in the mountains of Macedonia and uses ancient beekeeping methods for gaining honey and co-existing with bees. Her way of life is thrown into chaos when new neighbors move into the area, also wanting to gain access to honey and bees, but refuse to use Hatidze’s methods for cultivation.

The film comes from directors Tamara Kotevska and Ljubmoir Stevanov. “Honeyland” was critically-acclaimed coming out of its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film won the World Cinema Documentary Grand Jury Prize, World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Cinematography, and World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award.

“Honeyland” will arrive in theaters on July 26.

Here’s the synopsis:

Hatidze lives with her ailing mother in the mountains of Macedonia, making a living cultivating honey using ancient beekeeping traditions. When an unruly family moves in next door, what at first seems like a balm for her solitude becomes a source of tension as they, too, want to practice beekeeping, while disregarding her advice. The most awarded film out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, winning the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize, a Special Jury Award for Cinematography, and another Special Jury Award for Originality. HONEYLAND is an epic, visually stunning portrait of the delicate balance between nature and humanity that has something sweet for everyone.
