'Sweet Tooth's' Jim Mickle To Direct Film Based On 'God Country' Comic Book Series

Jim Mickle is doing his victory lap right now after the successful debut of his Netflix comic book adaptation, “Sweet Tooth.” (A series that I personally think is probably the best thing he’s done in his whole career.) Now, it appears he’s sticking with comic book adaptations for his next project, “God Country.”

According to THR, Jim Mickle is set to direct “God Country,” based on the comic book series from writer Donny Cates and artist Geoff Shaw. The comic book series tells the story of an aging man that is experiencing bouts of dementia and violent outbursts. And his life gets thrown upside down when a tornado hits his small town and he discovers a magical sword that he uses to help fight off monsters. Cates, who co-created the comic series, has written the script for the adaptation.

In addition to the aforementioned “Sweet Tooth,” Mickle’s most recent film work is the Netflix Original, “In the Shadow of the Moon.” He’s also the filmmaker behind features such as “Stake Land,” “Cold in July,” and “We Are What We Are.” While he’s probably best known for his genre-based thrillers, “Sweet Tooth” has shown he’s also very capable of delivering something very emotional and, if I dare say so, sweet. So, it’s exciting to see how he’s going to follow that up.

It’s unclear when production might begin on “God Country.” The new film is set to be produced by Legendary Entertainment, which is the studio behind the MonsterVerse and various other major blockbuster films. So you have to assume, with the success of “Sweet Tooth,” Mickle and Legendary are going to want to get this going as soon as possible.
