JK Simmons Is "Very Optimistic" J. Jonah Jameson Will Be Seen In Future 'Spider-Man' Films

While his appearance in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” was a complete surprise and a delight for longtime fans of the ‘Spider-Man’ franchise, JK Simmons is clearly not done with his role as J. Jonah Jameson just yet.

Speaking to Collider, Simmons fell just short of confirming that he’s going to show up in a future ‘Spider-Man’ film (the delayed sequel was already supposed to be in production), but he does drop enough of a hint that all but assures we’ll see more JJJ torturing Spidey on the big screen.

“There is a distinct chance, there have been discussions, and I’m not going to say anything definitive [laughter] because I don’t know if I’m allowed to,” said Simmons. “But yes, I’m very optimistic that I’ll have some more J.J.J. in my future.”

Now, it’s not 100% clear if this means we’ll see Jameson show up as a character in the third MCU ‘Spider-Man’ feature. But with the fallout of ‘Far From Home,’ we can only assume the Alex Jones-esque character will have a role to play in whatever comes next for Peter Parker. There is also the chance that Simmons is only talking about showing up in other Sony-produced ‘Spider-Man’ spinoff features.

Earlier this year, the actor teased that he had already filmed a Jameson appearance for a film, presumably “Morbius.” However, that has yet to be confirmed because “Morbius” has been delayed, due to the pandemic, until 2021. But even if he shows up in that feature, it is going to be assumed that Jameson will likely show up all around the growing Spider-Verse, as the character could become the connective tissue that ties them all together, in much the same way that Nick Fury acted as that in early MCU films.

Either way, even though Simmons is coy about the details, there’s clearly plenty more JJJ in the future. And that’s always a good thing. For fans, at least. Definitely not a good thing for Spider-Man.
