Jonah Hill Says Leonardo DiCaprio Forced Him To Watch ‘Mandalorian’ While Filming ‘Don’t Look Up’

Everyone has experienced the time when a friend or family member comes up to you and is like, “You gotta watch [Insert streaming TV series]! It’s the best!” A lot of the time, you kindly nod and say that you’ll have to watch it sometime later. But in the case of Jonah Hill, when Leonardo DiCaprio tells you to watch “The Mandalorian,” that’s exactly what you do.

Speaking to W Magazine, while promoting his Netflix hit, “Don’t Look Up,” Jonah Hill talked about how he has been trying to catch up on TV series, including “Game of Thrones.” But he also explained how DiCaprio forced him to watch the “Star Wars” streaming series, “The Mandalorian,” even though he doesn’t have any clue what’s going on.

“Leo made me watch ‘The Mandalorian’ when we were making ‘Don’t Look Up,’ and it was like, Baby Yoda was so cute, but I just didn’t give a fuck because I didn’t know anything that it was about.”

One series that he is binging now and not ashamed to talk about is “Game of Thrones.” Hill said he only started a few months ago, but he’s already on Season 4 of the HBO fantasy series. And while he is loving the experience, Hill explained how he’s missing some of the cultural zeitgeist moments that he would have experienced if he watched as it was coming out.

“‘Game of Thrones’ is so sick,” said Hill. “I know this is hilarious because I’m in 2012. I’m just watching three episodes at a time like you would binge any show. But I forget this happened in real-time and was like a cultural event. So I watched the Red Wedding, as one of three episodes I watched that night. I’m calling friends, like, ‘Oh my god, Robb Stark got killed, blah, blah, blah.’ And they’re like, ‘Yeah, dude. It was like the end-of-“Sopranos”-level cultural event.’”

We’ll have to find out what Jonah Hill thinks of the ending of “Game of Thrones” in a few months, as he catches up. Perhaps since he’s so far out of the cultural discussion, maybe he won’t be as disappointed? Nah, probably not.
