Kevin Smith: VFX People Say Joss Whedon Also Trash Talked Zack Snyder's 'Justice League'

Earlier this week, “Justice League” actor Ray Fisher made headlines when said that Joss Whedon‘s behavior on set was “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” after he took over Zack Snyder to finish the DC superhero film. Now, more allegations are coming to light, and this time it’s Kevin Smith who has comments from the film’s VFX team who corroborate Fisher’s experience on “Justice League.”

On the most recent episode of Kevin Smith’s FatMan Beyond podcast, Smith and co-host, writer Marc Bernadin, discussed the news before Smith shared a conversation he once had with members of the special effects team who worked on “Justice League” who had similar experiences to Ray Fisher. “The special effects guys said that there was a fair amount of trashing of Zack’s version of the movie on set by Joss,” Smith said, repeating that this is just based on comments made by members of the VFX team, not his own experiences. “[Joss Whedon] would cut down, dismiss, and be negative about Zack’s version, which he had seen, and all [the special effects team] had made together without him.”

After Ray Fisher’s comments about Whedon came to light, Reel Anarchy’s John Aaron Garza added to the claims by tweeting that “[producer Geoff Johns] also made fun of the Snyder Cut. Out loud. In front of People.” Smith and Bernadin also speculate that Fisher’s comments about Whedon being “enabled, in many ways, by Geoff Johns and [producer] Jon Berg,” also line up with the rumors and reports that the studio was unhappy with Zack Snyder’s cut of the film, so it would then make sense for them to bring along a director who also shared their vision of the film.

Again, this has not been confirmed, and the only response we’ve heard thus far has been from producer Jon Bern who denied the claims and said they were “categorically untrue.” The now-titled “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” is expected to see the light of day on HBO Max in 2021.
