Kirsten Dunst Replaces Elisabeth Moss In Jane Campion's Upcoming Netflix Film 'The Power Of The Dog'

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, and Elisabeth Moss were all signed to star in the new film, “The Power of the Dog,” from acclaimed filmmaker Jane Campion. However, as these things tend to happen, one of the aforementioned actors, Moss, recently had to drop out of the film, paving the way for Kirsten Dunst to step in.

Deadline is reporting that Moss recently had to leave the film due to scheduling conflicts, leaving a leading lady-sized hole in the Campion film. Enter Dunst, who is coming off a critically-acclaimed role in the new Showtime series “On Becoming a God in Central Florida,” and will now co-star in the drama.

“The Power of the Dog” finds Cumberbatch and Dano playing two polar opposite brothers on a ranch in 1920s Montana. The already tenuous relationship between the brothers gets thrown into chaos when Dano’s character marries a young widow (Dunst) and invites her, along with her son, to live on the ranch with his brother.

As mentioned, Dunst has been recently seen on her Showtime series but has been acting for decades, earning acclaim in various roles throughout the years. She’s probably best known for her Golden Globe-nominated role in 1994’s “Interview with a Vampire,” when she was a preteen. However, over the years she has also received acclaim in films such as “Melancholia,” which earned her the Best Actress award at Cannes, as well as TV work on a recent season of FX’sFargo.” Not to mention, she is also a major player in the Sam RaimiSpider-Man” blockbusters.

Campion is one of the most highly-decorated female filmmakers ever, as one of only a select few to have been nominated for a Best Directing award at the Oscars, for “The Piano” (for which she earned a Best Screenplay Academy Award) and the only female director to have won the coveted Palme d’Or at Cannes.

“The Power of the Dog” is set to be financed and distributed by Netflix and will arrive sometime in 2021.
