Kristen Stewart Signed To Play Jean Seberg In 'Against All Enemies' From 'Una' Director

After roles standout roles in “Personal Shopper” and “Clouds of Sils Maria,” the latter of which earned her the distinction of being the only American actress to win the César Award, Kristen Stewart seems to be an actress that is poised for serious awards consideration in the future. Perhaps that will happen with her next film, “Against All Enemies.”

In a Deadline report, Stewart is set to join an impressive cast in director Benedict Andrews‘ next film. Stewart will play iconic actress Jean Seberg in the film, which is described as a political thriller. For those that don’t know, Seberg was an actress that was targeted by an illegal FBI surveillance program, called COINTELPRO. The FBI surveillance came after her support for the Black Panther Party in the 1960s. The campaign to discredit Seberg included a false 1970 story that claimed that Seberg was pregnant with a child that was with a member of the Black Panther Party, and not with her husband.

Jean Seberg was an actress that appeared in many films, including “Breathless,” “Saint Joan,” “Bonjour Tristesse,” and “Lilith.” She spent more than half of her life in France, before her death in 1979, at the age of 40. Her death was ruled a probable suicide.

“Against All Enemies” is directed by Andrews, who is best known for his 2016 film, “Una.” The script is written by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, whose credits include “The Aftermath” and the upcoming “Edge of Tomorrow 2.”

Joining Stewart is an incredible cast consisting of Jack O’Connell, Anthony Mackie, Margaret Qualley, and Colm Meaney. Mackie is set to play a civil rights activist, with O’Connell signed on to play the FBI agent who was given the assignment of surveilling Sebreg.

Filming is scheduled to begin in the summer, for an anticipated 2019 release.
