'Linoleum' Exclusive Trailer: Jim Gaffigan Dreams Of The Stars In Colin West's New Film

Hollywood has plenty of examples of stand-up comedians who have been able to not only crossover into successful acting careers but have done so with surprising dramatic work. Most people point to Robin Williams as a perfect example of this. However, in 2023, you would be hard-pressed to find a stand-up comedian doing better dramatic work than Jim Gaffigan, especially in his new film, “Linoleum.”

After a successful debut at last year’s SXSW Film Festival, “Linoleum” is finally approaching its theatrical release date, and we’re thrilled to give our readers an exclusive look at the new trailer for the film. As seen in the trailer, “Linoleum” tells the story of a scientist-turned-children’s show host (Gaffigan) who is struggling with his job and dreaming of bigger and better things. And after a series of unbelievable events happen to him, including the introduction of a doppelgänger, the scientist begins to piece together events and question what exactly is going on.

Joining Gaffigan in the cast are Rhea Seehorn, Katelyn Nacon, Gabriel Rush, Amy Hargreaves, Roger Hendricks Simon, Elisabeth Henry, West Duchovny, Michael Ian Black, and Tony Shalhoub. The film is written and directed by Colin West.

In our review of “Linoleum” from last year’s SXSW, we said, “The aerospace elements of ‘Linoleum’ recall the homemade, Scotch-taped sci-fi vibe of ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’ a few years back, and West’s climax lands with a similarly unexpected emotional resonance; it sneaks up on you, quietly, and then clobbers you. What a beautiful little movie.”

“Linoleum” is set to arrive in theaters on February 24. You can watch the exclusive trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Cameron Edwin (Jim Gaffigan), the host of a failing children’s science TV show called “Above & Beyond”, has always had aspirations of being an astronaut. After a mysterious space-race era satellite coincidentally falls from space and lands in his backyard, his midlife crisis manifests in a plan to rebuild the machine into his dream rocket. As his relationship with his wife (Rhea Seehorn) and daughter (Katelyn Nacon) start to strain, surreal events begin unfolding around him — a doppelgänger moving into the house next door, a car falling from the sky, and an unusual teenage boy forging a friendship with him. He slowly starts to piece these events together to ultimately reveal that there’s more to his life story than he once thought.
