Lionsgate Already Eager For 'John Wick 3'

On a weekend that saw Donald Trump and whatever passed for a debate last night turn the media landscape into a garbage fire, there was one silver lining (aside from the Toronto Blue Jays once again winning a clutch playoff game in extra innings — go Jays!): “John Wick: Chapter 2.” The highly anticipated sequel dropped its first trailer and it looks every bit as fun as the original, and it looks like Lionsgate are as excited as everyone else. So much so, that they’ve already rung up director Chad Stahelski about a third movie in the series.

“The studio has asked us to put our heads together and see if we can come up with something. Winston’s [Ian McShane] is a big part of the next one, so is Lance Reddick. We’ve got some ideas,” the filmmaker told Collider.

However, it’s about coming up with the right idea, and Stahelski admits that at first, concepts for “John Wick: Chapter 2″ weren’t easy to come by.

“When it came to coming up with a story idea, we had like ten bad ideas, and then we were like, ‘fuck it,’ what would have just happened the next day. Once we stopped worrying about ourselves, it was fun,” Stahelsi said. “Is it as good as the first one? I don’t know, that’s personal opinion. Did we go better in some ways? Yes. Did we explore the character more? Yes. It’s better, I think, technically. Is the enjoyment better? Yes, it’s there, but it’s completely different.”

As long as it’s just as awesome as the first “John Wick,” we’ll be happy. “John Wick: Chapter 2” opens on February 10, 2017.
