'The Lovebirds' Trailer: The Delayed Issa Rae/Kumail Nanjiani Comedy Hits Netflix Next Month

A little more than two weeks ago was when the general public was set to watch Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae in the new comedy film, “The Lovebirds.” This would have taken place just a few weeks after the film premiered to a huge crowd at SXSW. Unfortunately, COVID-19 had other plans and the world premiere and the entire theatrical release were scrapped. Now, we are about two weeks away from the film finally being released, but in a completely different way than originally planned—through Netflix.

As seen in the new trailer, “The Lovebirds” stars Nanjiani and Rae as a couple that find themselves involved in some hijinks that puts them directly in the middle of a murder mystery. They then find themselves on the run, attempting to clear their name, and making audiences laugh while they do it.

The film comes from director Michael Showalter, who’s probably best known for his previous collaboration with Nanjiani, “The Big Sick.” Before that, he was also the filmmaker behind projects such as “Hello, My Name is Doris” and “The Baxter.” His next project finds himself teaming with Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
