Luca Guadagnino Isn’t Focused On A ‘Call Me By Your Name’ Sequel Anymore

We’ve been talking about the strong possibility that a sequel to the acclaimed feature, “Call Me By Your Name,” would be happening eventually. The way Luca Guadagnino and cast members like Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer talked about the sequel idea, it seemed all but inevitable that we’d see another film in the continuing love story. Yet, things have apparently changed for Guadagnino as he admits the “Call Me By Your Name” sequel is no longer a priority.

Speaking to Deadline, Luca Guadagnino talked about his upcoming film, “Bones & All,” which he is about to begin production on in the U.S. And while talking about the new film, he explained why he isn’t focused on making “Call Me By Your Name 2” anymore.

“The truth of the matter is, my heart is still there, but I’m working on this movie now, and I’m hopefully going to do ‘Scarface’ soon, and I have many projects and so will focus on this side of the Atlantic and the movies I want to make,” explained the filmmaker.

Of course, even if Guadagnino seemed focused on making “Call Me By Your Name 2,” it wouldn’t be a very easy film to get produced. Not only is he right about having a lot of projects on his schedule, but Chalamet has turned into one of the biggest names in film and already has a bunch of projects already lined up. But of course, you can’t help but think about how difficult it would be to make a film with Armie Hammer in a lead role right now, considering how the actor has been the subject of various sexual misconduct allegations and has been dropped from a number of film and TV projects this year. All that to say, “Call Me By Your Name 2” doesn’t seem like a film that would be made no matter what.

Regardless, Guadagnino explained that working in the US has completely changed his outlook on filmmaking and has led him to want to explore this side of the Atlantic a lot more in the future.

“I’ve been totally influenced by the American culture, American cinema, and now, American landscape, so I’m very happy and proud that I’ve finally come to this shore,” he said. “The last few months have been amazing for me, getting to know this part of the country, which is beautiful and unseen.”
