“Making a Murderer” was a phenomenon when it hit Netflix back in December 2015. The true crime docuseries launched a wave of knockoffs and caused millions of people to suddenly be interested in two men in Wisconsin and the murder of the young Teresa Halbach. Now, almost three years later, filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos are back to update what’s been happening in Manitowoc County, and according to the new trailer, while support has grown for the two men behind bars, they still face incredible hurdles.
Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey are still behind bars. That much is the same. However, “Making a Murderer Part 2” is now led by a new group of lawyers that joined the cases of these two men after they were thrust in the spotlight in 2015. Now, with all-star legal teams, Avery and Dassey are attempting to get new trials and ultimately clear up what exactly happened in 2005.
But much like the first series of “Making a Murderer,” the story doesn’t just feel like a real-life “Law & Order” episode. No, the murder of Halbach, and the conviction of Avery and Dassey, has had ripple effects that have torn apart families and caused incredible drama for friends and family involved.
“Making a Murderer Part 2” hits Netflix on October 19.
