‘The Mandalorian’: Timothy Olyphant Reportedly Will Wear Boba Fett’s Armor In The ‘Star Wars’ Series

When it was announced that actor Timothy Olyphant had been cast in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” not much was known about what character he might portray. However, if a new report from /Film is correct, we know exactly who Olyphant will be playing and it appears he’ll be wearing the iconic armor of Boba Fett. But he’s not a Mandalorian.

According to the report, Olyphant is most likely playing the character known as Cobb Vanth in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian.” And while that name might not mean a lot to the majority of “Star Wars” fans, those who have read the “Aftermath” book series will know who he is and why he could be sporting the armor of Boba Fett in the series.

Vanth was introduced in the “Aftermath” book series by writer Chuck Wendig. The character is a self-appointed sheriff of Freetown, a settlement on Tattooine. Vanth wears a cobbled-together set of Mandalorian armor that he bought off of some Jawas, who scavenged Jabba the Hutt’s ship after the events of ‘Return of the Jedi.’ So, while it’s unclear how much of the “Aftermath” story might carry over into “The Mandalorian,” it’s clear that there will be a reason why Olyphant’s character might dress as Boba Fett in the series.

So, if Olyphant is the character that looks like Boba Fett in “The Mandalorian,” who the hell does actor Temuera Morrison play in the upcoming season. When it was announced that Morrison was returning to “Star Wars” in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” it was revealed that he would likely play Boba Fett. However, if Olyphant wears the armor, signaling that Fett is indeed dead, then maybe Morrison portrays the character in a flashback? Or maybe the speculation that the actor would instead play Captain Rex (a clone commando that appeared in animated “Star Wars” shows) is actually more accurate?

Either way, it would appear that Boba Fett and/or his armor will be appearing in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” proving that Disney/Lucasfilm is willing to wait one whole season before the “Definitely not Boba Fett” series actually features Boba Fett. Better than nothing, I suppose.
