Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn Reportedly Won’t Join ‘Suicide Squad’ Or Crossover Into 'Gotham City Sirens'

If your local DC fanboy seems a bit down today, we might know the reason why (other than the ongoing lack of a Snyder cut). Forbes reports in a very long piece that not only will Margot Robbie and Harley Quinn not return in James Gunn‘s “The Suicide Squad,” but there aren’t plans for that crossover between “Birds of Prey” and “Gotham City Sirens” they’ve been dreaming about. But calm them down: they’re still getting their “Gotham City Sirens” movie. It’s apparently happening despite the fact that everyone assumed “Birds Of Prey” is simply what ‘Sirens’ transformed into.

Whew.

All the news about the crossover does, however, go against recent reporting both here and elsewhere that “Birds of Prey” could be the first in a female-centric trilogy, so we’ll stay tuned for an official word from Warner Bros. on exactly how much of Robbie and Harley we’re going to get. The Forbes piece also says that the Jared Leto‘s Joker and Harley Quinn won’t be uniting in a duo film either, so romance really is dead (just in time for Valentine’s Day).

In  addition to the presence of Harley (of course), “Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” introduces Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Detective Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) and Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco). We’re still cautiously optimistic about the project between its teaser and the presence of “Dead Pigs” director Cathy Yan and “Bumblebee” screenwriter Christina Hodson, who promise to bring fresh voices to the DC universe.
