Got a Tip?

Mark Romanek To Direct Casey Affleck In ‘Boston Strangler’

Mark Romanek is a director we could use more of. It took eight years after “One Hour Photo” to make 2010’s “Never Let Me Go,” and we’ve been waiting ever since for his next feature. He was attached to Disney‘s “Cinderella” for a time, before money and a creative clash with the studio kiboshed the gig. But now a project is on his plate that sounds much more exciting than a mainstream tentpole, and it will find him working with an actor who has no problem signing on to great material.

Variety reports that Romanek will direct Casey Affleck in “Boston Strangler.” The actor first became attached the project just over a year ago, the Black List-approved script by Chuck Maclean (“Storming Las Vegas“) follows a detective who was part of the Strangler Squad tasked with bringing down the titular serial killer of women, who notched at least 13 victims in the 1960s. The tone of the movie is apparently somewhere in the neighborhood of “Zodiac” or “Seven,” which sounds just fine by us.

No word yet on when it might shoot, but the project is over at Warner Bros. and hopefully this means momentum is now gaining on the film.
