'Marriage Story,' 'War Of The Worlds' & More Join The Criterion Collection In July

The Criterion Collection has already established quite a relationship with Netflix over the past year. With the debut of “Roma” in the Criterion catalog last year, it was announced that the two would strengthen their relationship by adding “Marriage Story,” “Atlantics,” “The Irishman,” and “American Factory” to the coveted collection. And in July, the first film in that list hits Criterion.

Marriage Story” is on its way to the Criterion Collection in July, and as you might expect, the special edition release is packed with incredible bonus features that will make film fans eager to purchase a physical copy of the streaming film. In addition to the standard 4K picture and best possible sound, “Marriage Story” will also have new behind-the-scenes featurettes about the making of the film, a new interview with filmmaker Noah Baumbach, and interviews with actors Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, Laura Dern, Alan Alda, Julie Hagerty, and Ray Liotta.

But “Marriage Story” isn’t the only high-profile film coming to Criterion in July. Byron Haskin’s Oscar-winning 1953 adaptation of HG Wells’ “The War of the Worlds” also debuts that month. The classic sci-fi film comes with a new 4K digital restoration of the film, along with the original monaural sound (there’s a 5.1 surround sound option, if you’re so inclined, as well). The release also has new interviews, a documentary about the film, and an audio commentary from 2005 featuring filmmaker Joe Dante, film historian Bob Burns, and author Bill Warren.

In addition, July brings even more films to Criterion, including Preston Sturges’ classic “The Lady Eve,” Abbas Kiarostami’s Palme d’Or-winning film “Taste of Cherry,” and the previously announced Bruce Lee box set dubbed “Bruce Lee: His Greatest Hits,” which features 5 classic films including “Enter the Dragon.”
