Mel Gibson To Spend 'Summer Vacation' In Veracruz

It looks like 2010 is shaping up to be Mel Gibson’s comeback year. In addition to starring in “Edge Of Darkness” and “The Beaver”, it was just announced this morning that Gibson will be directing Leonardo DiCaprio in an “unsparing” William Monahan scripted Viking epic due to shoot next fall.

In all of this chatter, the comment made last week by the governor of Veracruz Fidel Herrera that Gibson would be returning the region to work on a film has largely been forgotten. Until now. Production Weekly has twittered that Gibson is set to star in “How I Spent My Summer Vacation,” which will begin shooting in Veracruz in March. Gibson won’t be helming the picture, but instead will handing the reins to longtime second unit and assistant director Adrian Grunberg. Grunberg’s resume is pretty sterling, having been backup on such pictures as Gibson’s “Apocalypto,” “The Limits Of Control,” “Traffic,” “Jarhead” and Oliver Stone’s forthcoming “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.” Not too shabby.

We did a quick look around and information on the film itself seem to be non-existent, but undoubtedly, casting and plot details are sure to arrive in the coming weeks. A prison in Veracruz is being emptied to accommodate production so unless it’s some sort of ironic comedy, the film looks like it will be another grim picture for the masochistic Gibson.
