'Men' Teaser Trailer: Jessie Buckley Stars In Alex Garland's A24 Horror About The Male Species

It’s hard to believe that it’s been four years since Alex Garland‘s “Annihilation” hit the big screen courtesy of A24. While that film flopped hard at the box office, it still garnered solid reviews from critics, and everyone has waited for Garland’s follow-up ever since.

In the meantime, Garland’s been busy with his hit show “Devs,” which premiered on FX On Hulu in 2020. Now, he returns to the big screen with a brand-new film with a simple yet cryptic title, “Men.” So, the obvious question: what’s “Men” about, and who are the men suggested in the title? So far, the only answer comes in a similarly cryptic synopsis, found below:

A young woman goes on a solo vacation in the English countryside after the death of her ex-husband.

No doubt that the presence of men interrupts the young woman’s country idyll, but as to how right now is anyone’s guess.

Jessie Buckley leads the cast as the aforementioned young woman. “Men” likely continues Buckley’s stretch of mesmerizing performances that include last year’s “The Lost Daughter” and 2020’s “I’m Thinking Of Ending Things.”

The film also stars Rory Kinnear and Paapa Essiedu. U.S. audiences will recognize Kinnear as MI6 agent Bill Tanner from the Daniel CraigBond films. Essiedu had a starring role in the BBC/HBO show “I May Destroy You,” while Kinnear has a leading role in the upcoming HBO Max show, “Our Flag Means Death.”

Garland shot “Men” early last year in the U.K. with cinematographer Rob Hardy, who’s worked with him on both “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation,” as well as “Devs.” Musicians Ben Salisbury and Geoff Barrow, who also worked on those projects, return to compose the film’s score.

“Men” hits theaters May 20, 2022, from A24. Watch the new trailer below.
