'Mrs. Davis': Betty Gilpin To Play A Nun Battling A.I. For Damon Lindelof

In the wake of the popularity of Charlie Brooker’s fantastic technology thriller anthology series, “Black Mirror,” multiple shows are popping up, continuing the dystopian idea of cautionary tales set within the world of futuristic advances. Alex Garland‘s underrated “DEVS” is an excellent example of a series taking a similar tone to “Black Mirror,” and another show might be trying to fill those shoes with a religious twist.

Peacock has announced that actress Betty Gilpin (“GLOW,” “The Hunt“) has joined their new streaming series “Mrs. Davis” and will be playing a nun that will battle against an all-powerful Artificial Intelligence. While we’re still waiting on concrete plot details, “Mrs. Davis” is described as “an exploration of faith versus technology — an epic battle of biblical and binary proportions.”

The tech drama has assembled an exciting group of creatives; it will be co-written by Damon Lindelof and showrunner Tara Hernadez (“The Big Bang Theory,” “Young Sheldon“).

Owen Harris, who worked on Peacock’s short-lived expensive series “Brave New World” and “Black Mirror: San Junipero,” is directing multiple episodes of the sci-fi drama. It’s an intelligent move to nab someone from the “Black Mirror” family to help direct if you’re possibly trying to embody that show’s tone.

Gilpin was a breakout on the Netflix comedy series “GLOW” and recently appeared in the Chris Pratt sci-fi action film “The Tomorrow War.” She also had a breakout role in the politically divisive “The Hunt” that Lindelof wrote. She has an upcoming role in the Watergate show “Gaslit” at Starz opposite Sean Penn and Julia Roberts.

Lindelof, who will executive produce “Mrs. Davis” alongside Harris and Hernadez, has been previously behind popular HBO shows “Watchmen” and “The Leftovers” with high-profile feature film writing credits such as “Prometheus,” “Star Trek,” and “World War Z.” The plates keep spinning for Lindelof as he’s is also reportedly writing an untitled “Star Wars” film for Lucasfilm/Disney.
