MUBI Streaming Service Announces "Library" Section Filled With Hundreds Of Curated Films

MUBI is a film streaming service that readers of The Playlist are probably familiar with. And if not, then you definitely should be. Instead of taking the “Throw everything against a wall and see what sticks” strategy of platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, and others, MUBI has decided to take the opposite approach, carefully curating a new set of specials, shorts, and features to be shown on the service each and every month. Well, now things are changing, as the service has decided to open its vault and allow subscribers the chance to go to the “library” to watch curated selections from the past.

According to MUBI, a new part of the service has just opened, dubbed the Library, which allows subscribers the chance to watch hundreds of features, shorts, and specials that previously were chosen by the service to be featured in months past. This is a stark change for the service, as MUBI has taken pride in only offering the pick of the litter, so to speak. But unlike its competition, MUBI still thinks that the library will enhance the curated aspect of the service, while also giving subscribers much more content to stream.

So, what can you find in the library section of MUBI? Well, the service describes the content, saying, “Films you missed the first time we picked them. Films you can discover all over again. Films you never even knew existed. From MUBI specials and retrospectives, to our double-bills and other exclusives. All hand-picked by us. As always.”

To help announce the new feature, MUBI released an image that shows the selection of titles, aligned as if they’re books in a real library. Some of the titles include recent selections such as Luca Guadagnino’s short film, “The Staggering Girl,” the acclaimed foreign-language feature from last year, “Beanpole,” and Jean-Luc Godard’sThe Image Book.” Of course, there are plenty of other acclaimed features from filmmakers such as Christian Petzold, Josephine Decker, and Abbas Kiarostami, among many, many more.

So, if you’re looking for films that aren’t likely going to be featured on other streaming platforms, delving into the history of cinema from all around the world, as well as festival favorites, and indie gems, MUBI is now even better than ever.
