‘Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always’ Trailer: Unintended Pregnancy Leads To Cross State Journey In Eliza Hittman’s Drama

Becoming pregnant is one of the scariest, yet exciting times in someones life, the moment you know you are to bring another human into the World is truly amazing. Well “Never, Rarely, Sometimes, Always” will show how an unexpected pregnancy brings two cousins closer together.

Directed and written by Eliza Hittman (“Beach Rats”), this film is to showcase the true bravery and compassion between two teenage girls as they embark on a mission for medical help when one of them becomes pregnant unexpectedly.

This will be Hittman’s third film, with “It Felt Like Love” and “Beach Rats” already under her belt. Both of those films have had positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (84% and 85% respectively). Hittman’s films tend to focus on the big issues in society, like sexuality, and it seems like her new film will follow a similar path. As we discover the journey of one going through an unintended pregnancy as well as dealing with the emotional turmoil.

The film is going to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and Hittman is no stranger when it comes to debuting her latest projects at the largest independent film festival in the USA. She has received awards for her previous work when she won the directing award for “Beach Rats” back at Sundance 2017. She also had “It Felt Like Love” chosen as a critics’ pick by the New York Times and Village Voice.

Her work has also carried over to TV where she has been a director for two episodes of the Netflix show, “13 Reasons Why,” where she was part of the highly controversial second season which spoke about gun violence in schools as well as sexuality. Hittman has also directed on HBO’s High Maintenance.”

With this being her third film, it doesn’t seem like she is shying away from those big issues she seems to delve deep in too. While she isn’t scared to give new actors a chance either, with Sidney Flanigan making her starring and lead debut. Talia Ryder (“West Side Story”) will be joining her on her journey, as Ryan Eggold (“BlacKkKlansman”), Théodore Pellerin (“Genesis”), and Sharon Van Etten (“The OA”) will all co-star as Focus Features distributes it.

Here is the synopsis:

The film is an intimate portrayal of two teenage girls in rural Pennsylvania. Faced with an unintended pregnancy and a lack of support, Autumn (Sidney Flanigan) and her cousin Skylar (Talia Ryder) embark across state lines to New York City on a fraught journey of friendship, bravery and compassion.

The film will premiere at Sundance and will be released in theaters on March 13th, 2020. Watch the brand new trailer below.
