New Films By John Boorman, Frederick Wiseman, Bruno Dumont & More Set For Cannes Directors' Fortnight

Queen And Country

The Cannes Film Festival lineup now has been revealed, the Cannes Critics’ Week unfurled their slate and today, the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight has lifted the curtain on what they’ll be presenting in the south of France next month. And as per usual, it’s a mix of arthouse names, established veterans and rising newcomers.

The biggest title in the mix is “Queen And Country,” the first feature film in eight years from director John Boorman. It’s a sequel to his autobiographical 1987 film “Hope & Glory” (which earned five Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Director), and follows the now 18 year-old Bill Rowan (played by Caleb Landry Jones), who is sent to fight against the Chinese in the Korean war. David Thewlis, Tamsin Egerton, and Richard E. Grant co-star.

Meanwhile, Frederick Wiseman has completed yet another documentary, “The National Gallery,” about the museum in London. And Bruno Dumont, usually known for his slow moving, intense dramas, has headed to TV and will be presenting “Li’l Quinquin,” his miniseries police procedural, in its entirety.

Lastly, making the jump from other festivals to Cannes, is Jim Mickle‘s Texan noir “Cold In July” which premiered in Sundance, Tobe Hooper‘s restored “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” which unspooled at SXSW, and the Miles Teller starring jazz drumming drama “Whiplash” that also took a bow in Park City.
