Though film releases have largely been put on hold for the foreseeable future, as theaters around the world are closed due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, the world of TV is going strong. Most reports claim that TV watching has increased, particularly with streaming services. Well, the pandemic may not be affecting a lot of the shows that were scheduled to be released in April, the virus has put a stop to “Fargo.” And according to the show’s creator, the stoppage has been “frustrating.”

Speaking to THR, Noah Hawley talked about how Season 4 of “Fargo” was delayed from its April premiere due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike many other cable shows that are premiering now, the upcoming season of the FX Emmy-winning hit wasn’t done with production. But damn, they were so, so close.
“We were three weeks from wrapping ‘Fargo,’ so I have three-quarters of a show that I can’t show people until I finish,” said Hawley. “And I don’t know when I can finish. So it’s frustrating on a lot of levels to be so close to the end and not know when you can finish it. But, obviously, in the scope of real-world problems, it’s pretty minor.”
Unfortunately, not even the post-production on “Fargo” is able to move forward at 100% on the footage that was already shot. As Hawley explained, coronavirus exposure hit his editing team, leaving them only working at partial capacity. Though, without a release date, there’s no rush.

“Our post was also hit by a potential exposure, so our editors are at home now,” he explained. “A couple of them were able to get editing systems in their homes. But because our release date got pushed, we’re not rushing. I get a bit of breathing room where I can actually engage with it more creatively and less in a desperate panic to get it done in time.”
While many were bummed that “Fargo” was pushed from its premiere in April to an undetermined release date, it’s clear that the delay wasn’t without a good reason. While shows like “Devs” and “Mrs. America” are able to debut at their regular times on FX/Hulu, it appears that “Fargo” was already cutting it close with its April release. Now, at least, Hawley and Co. will have ample time to deliver a season that fans will be excited to see.
