As you’ve probably been made aware of by the sheer number of articles about the upcoming events, we are knee-deep in preparation for the fall film festivals. With the next several months devoted to world premieres of some of the biggest films of the year (at least in our minds), this is most definitely the time to screen a film if you’re a filmmaker looking to make waves in awards season. And thus, it makes complete sense that Fox Searchlight has announced that Noah Hawley’s “Lucy in the Sky” is getting a prime fall release date.
The distributor announced today that “Lucy in the Sky” will be released on October 4. This means two things. First, the month of October is a great time to debut a film with Oscar aspirations, and with Natalie Portman leading the way in the cast, ‘Lucy’ looks to be one of the easy awards season choices. And second, October means that there’s still plenty of time for Hawley’s film to get that fall film festival premiere.
Joining Portman in the cast are Jon Hamm, Dan Stevens, Zazie Beetz, and Ellen Burstyn. As mentioned, the film is directed by Hawley, who is probably best known as the creative mind behind the “Fargo” series and FX’s trippy superhero series “Legion.”
“Lucy in the Sky” is now scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 4. It’s likely we hear an announcement about which festivals we can see the film in the days to come.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
“Lucy In The Sky” centers on a married astronaut who returns to Earth after a mission and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut. She heads into a downward spiral as she loses her connection to her family — a condition that can afflict those who spend a long time in space — and when her lover begins another affair with an astronaut trainee, the bottom drops out.
