'Now Apocalypse' Trailer: Gregg Araki's New Starz Series Looks Like A Psychedelic Trip Through The End Of Days

With the stresses and anxieties of the entire world ever present, we all feel like we could lose it any day now. But at least we can rest assured we are not so far gone to find ourselves in Starz‘s latest series, “Now Apocalypse.”

A trippy, neon-clad ride, “Now Apocalypse” is set to premiere at Sundance Film Festival, which is just around the corner. The psychedelic show has quite the team behind it. Steven Soderbergh is serving as one of the executive producers for the show along with Gregory Jacobs, his longtime producing partner, first A.D., and director of “Magic Mike XXL.” The filmmaker previously worked with Starz on “The Girlfriend Experience” and “Now Apocalypse,” was just given a 10-episode straight-to-series order from the network.

While also serving as an executive producer, Gregg Araki directs the series. The filmmaker has dabbled quite a bit on TV, with credits to “Heathers,” “Riverdale,” and “13 Reasons Why” to name a few. On the film side, Araki is known for “Mysterious Skin” and “White Bird in a Blizzard.”

Here’s the official trailer and full synopsis:

“Now Apocalypse” is a half-hour comedy series created and executive produced by Gregg Araki (Kaboom, Mysterious Skin). Steven Soderbergh (“The Girlfriend Experience,” Logan Lucky) and Gregory Jacobs (Magic Mike XXL, “Red Oaks”) also serve as executive producers. This surreal, coming-of-age comedy series centers on Ulysses (Avan Jogia, “Tut,” “Twisted”) and his friends Carly (Kelli Berglund, “Lab Rats,” Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors), Ford (Beau Mirchoff, “Awkward,” “The Fosters”) and Severine (Roxane Mesquida, Kaboom, “Gossip Girl”), who are on various quests pursuing love, sex and fame.

The series has quite the distinct look, and isn’t holding anything back. “If this isn’t the craziest thing I’ve ever read, it’s tied for first,” said Soderbergh last year. “We will not be responsible for people’s heads splitting in half when they see it.”

Well, that’s certainly a ringing endorsement. “Now Apocalypse” stars Avan Jogia, Kelli Berglund, Beau Mirchoff, Roxane Mesquida and premieres March 10 on Starz.
