'Spencer' Director Pablo Larrain To Finish His Biopic Trilogy With Next Film But Isn’t Saying Who It’ll Be About

With “Spencer” arriving this week and receiving a ton of awards buzz already, you would think that filmmaker Pablo Larrain might want to keep making these female-led biopics for the rest of his career. His previous film, “Jackie,” went on to earn multiple Oscar nominations several years ago. And now, the filmmaker is ready to talk about his next film, which he admits will be another biopic, but he promises it’ll be his last for a while.

Speaking to Variety, filmmaker Pablo Larrain talked about his upcoming film, “Spencer,” which stars Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, and he also teased what he will be working on next. The filmmaker admitted that his next film will be another biopic, but he said, “I don’t want to spend my whole life doing these types of movies. I love them, but I think it’s good to put an end to it.”

When asked if he will break the trend of female-led films like “Jackie” and “Spencer,” he said, “No, it will be a lady with heels.”

Who that lady with heels might be is anyone’s guess. One thing we know for certain is that it won’t be Britney Spears. How do we know this? Well, Variety asked him if the film will be about the controversial pop star, who has been in the news lately with her seemingly non-stop family legal battles.

“I am very curious,” Larrain said. “In particular, her relationship with media. I’ve worked with certain people’s lives, and it’s never really a biopic. I think the biopic concept is a bit of a fantasy. What would be odd is making a movie about someone like Britney Spears, and who will play her? Would she play herself? Would someone else be playing her, and then she would be on set looking at herself played by another person? That operation, I think, is really weird. If it was a fictional take on her, that could be very interesting.”

So, if Britney Spears is out, then that leaves billions of other women it could be. Feel free to begin your speculation. “Spencer” arrives in theaters on November 5.
