Deadline is reporting that Apple has made a deal with producers DHX Media to produce brand-new “Peanuts” content for it’s as-yet-unannounced streaming service that is set to launch sometime in 2019. For those not familiar with Charlie Brown and his crew, first, you probably had a terrible childhood, and second, you might have lived under a rock. The various “Peanuts” properties (TV shows, comic strips, films, etc…) follow Charlie Brown and his friends as they get into various adventures. Some of the most iconic stories revolve around Charlie’s dog Snoopy.

Apple is said to begin with a new series of short animations that are STEM-based that focus on the Snoopy character as an astronaut. These shorts come after the deal that was struck between Peanuts Worldwide and NASA, to help inspire young people to have a passion for space exploration and STEM.

Other content that Apple will exclusively release will be in the form of new series, specials, and more shorts, focused on the various members of the “Peanuts” crew.

As mentioned, Apple is focused on its streaming service moving forward, as the tech company begins exploring the world of film and TV. As the largest company in the world, money is no option, and deals like this is exactly how Apple intends on drawing users to its content. The tech company has already worked out deals with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, such as Steven Spielberg, Dr. Dre, Reese Witherspoon, and M. Night Shyamalan.

Apple has yet to formally announce the service, but recent reports state the tech company plans on offering it for free to current owners of Apple products and perhaps at a charge for the rest of the population. And because this content will be readily available without a subscription barrier, it’s been reported that Apple is focused on family-friendly content that won’t offend or titillate viewers, which is why this recent “Peanuts” deal makes so much sense.
