So, a couple weeks back, you may have been delighted (or horrified) by the news that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were eyeing the director’s chair for “Ghostbusters 3.” On the one the hand, these are the guys have turned out critically acclaimed smash hits “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs,” “21 Jump Street” and “The Lego Movie.” On the other hand, they can do so much better than trying to revive this wheezing, forever developing sequel. Thankfully, they’ve bailed.
As per The Wrap:
Hearing LORD & MILLER ended up walking away from GHOSTBUSTERS 3 job. They were the studio’s choice but wanted to keep their options open…

And that makes complete and total sense. Lord and Miller already started the year hot with Warner Bros. and “The Lego Movie,” and if “22 Jump Street” is the smash it’s expected to be for Sony, Hollywood will be the filmmakers’ oyster (if it wasn’t already). They will pretty much have carte blanche to try whatever wild idea they want to next.
