'Ralph Breaks The Internet' Trailer: Take A Trip To Disney's Version Of The "Dark Net"

In the first “Wreck-It Ralph,” audiences got a video game mashup film that featured some of the biggest characters in gaming combined with the Disney way of subverting tropes. Well, for the sequel, “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” we get the same idea but on a much grander scale. Social media, search engines, spam, and yes, even the Dark Net are all subject to jokes in the new Disney animated film.

The latest trailer for ‘Ralph 2’ begins to flesh out the story, which feels a bit flimsy upon reflection. The main characters from the original film, Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz venture into the World Wide Web to find a new steering wheel for the latter’s arcade game. But honestly, the plot is frivolous, as the real meat of the film is apparently to show ‘Ralph’ versions of famous viral videos and memes, including the Rick Roll (which is featured in the trailer) and Grumpy Cat.

But the added wrinkle to this new trailer is the inclusion of the new, dark and gritty races that the characters engage in, thanks to Gal Gadot’s new character and the addition of the Dark Net, which doesn’t actually show illegal arms deals and various other despicable things commonly found on the real underbelly of the Internet. No, in Disney’s Dark Net, we get a slimy, weird looking creature with a “little brother” growing out of his neck. It’s weird.

“Ralph Breaks the Internet” hits theaters November 21.

Here’s the synopsis:

“Ralph Breaks the Internet” leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet—the netizens—to help navigate their way, including a webite entrepreneur named Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site “BuzzzTube.”
