‘Retaliation Trailer’: Orlando Bloom Has A Long Buried But Quite Personal Score To Settle

There are at least two reasons why someone might suppress a delicate secret they care not to share with the rest of the world. Maybe, they worry about adding or creating a burden for their friends and family. Maybe, they don’t want to throw a wrench into a beautiful relationship with their significant other.

Or maybe, something so terrible happened that it seems near impossible to come to grips with. Orlando Bloom has fired arrows at monsters of Middle-earth and clashed swords with bloodthirsty pirates but now fights the source of the palpable latter in a new film aptly called “Retaliation.”

The project is a feature film adaptation of the short “Romans 12:20,” both directed by Ludwig Shammasian and Paul Shammasian and both written by BAFTA winner Geoff Thompson. It is only the second feature helmed by the brother directors after 2015’s “The Pyramid Texts” which—following a similar vein and also written by Thompson—gave an ex-boxer the opportunity to express his deepest thoughts and sentiments to his alienated son. Additionally, the fact that “Romans 12:20” is based on actual events lends hard-hitting credibility to this film.

Starring alongside Bloom are Janet Montgomery (“New Amsterdam” & “Black Swan”) and Charlie Creed-Miles (“The Fifth Element” & “Wild Bill”). Additional cast members include Anne Reid (“Hot Fuzz” & “The Mother”) and Alex Ferns (“EastEnders” & “Chernobyl”).

Here’s the synopsis:

Orlando Bloom stars as Malky, a demolition worker whose life receives a seismic shock when, out drinking with friends at a local pub, he sees a disturbing figure from his past: the man he holds responsible for a traumatic childhood incident. Fueled by anger, Malky sets out on a path of vengeance—and discovers that no one can escape the consequences of their sins in this taut thriller.

“Retaliation” comes to on-demand and digital on July 24th. Check out the trailer below and watch one man seek his own form of justice.
