“Skyfall” set the Bond bar incredibly high, with the film becoming the first billion dollar box office earner in the history of the franchise, and it looks like one of the key ingredients to its success is moving on. We’ll let Kristopher Tapley let you know himself via the following tweet:

Bummer, dudes. Deakins was nominated for an Oscar for his gorgeous work on Sam Mendes‘ film, with “Skyfall” marking their third collaboration together following “Jarhead” and “Revolutionary Road.” It’s not clear why Deakins won’t be returning this time around, but we presume he feels he’s put his beautiful stamp on Bond and wants to move on to other things. Or perhaps it’s just something as simple as scheduling keeping him out of the game. Either way, Mendes will have to get someone new behind the camera (and it’s a shame Conrad L. Hall—who lensed “Road To Perdition” and “American Beauty“—is no longer with us as we would’ve loved to see what he could with Bond).
