Got a Tip?

Ryan Gosling & Emma Stone’s ‘La La Land’ Pushed To December, Will Open Against ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’

La La LandSometimes around The Playlist, we have disagreements. And last week, as we put together our premature Oscar predictions for 2017, one movie we battled over was Damien Chazelle‘s "La La Land." At the time, the musical from the director of "Whiplash," starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, had a summer release date of July 15th, and I really didn’t see it going the distance through the awards season. But it looks like I’ll be buying the office donuts tomorrow.

EW reveals that Summit Entertainment has pushed the movie all the way back to a very awards friendly date of December 2nd, where it will open in limited release before going wide on December 16th when it will open against Will Smith‘s "Collateral Beauty" and a little independent movie known as "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." That is a big shot of confidence in the picture, and in the eternal appeal of Gosling and Stone’s effortless chemistry. However, this news means we’ll be waiting even longer for the Chazelle/Gosling/Stone movie which follows a young couple — actress Mia and jazz pianist Sebastian — who try to keep their relationship together in a city of cutthroat careerism.

Thoughts? Is this one gonna shake up the race? Do you want to see it more than ‘Rogue One’? Let us know in the comments section.
