Ryan Reynolds Is Ready To Play James Bond If People Are Cool With A Canadian 007 Who Doesn’t Drink Martinis

In the race to find out who is going to play the new James Bond after the end of Daniel Craig’s run as the superspy, we have fan-favorites such as Idris Elba, Henry Cavill, and Tom Hardy. But lately, some other actors have been thrown into the discussion, such as the young Tom Holland and the very American (and very muscly) Dwayne Johnson. Never one to be left out of a pop culture discussion, Ryan Reynolds has thrown his name out there, though he understands he has some hurdles to overcome to be accepted by the Bond fanbase.

Writing an essay for The Times, Ryan Reynolds talks quite a bit about his personal life, the way he treats raising his kids, stepping away from acting for a year, and, of course, how he’s interested in taking over the role of James Bond. However, considering he’s not British and drinks a very different cocktail than 007, the actor knows he has an uphill battle.

“I hear they’re looking for a new James Bond,” writes Reynolds. “Could you accept a Canadian sipping gin and tonic instead of a martini? If so, I’m interested.”

Obviously, we can all hear the tone in which Reynolds says that, right? We know his tongue is planted firmly in cheek. That said, if Barbara Broccoli and the other Bond producers are looking to shake things up but still scared of a non-white male 007, then why not Ryan Reynolds? It definitely would be a change of pace from the ultra-serious Craig, right?

Right?

Okay, yeah, that’s a terrible idea. But who isn’t imagining the ridiculously silly Bond-isms Reynolds would satirize in his take on the character?
