A couple of weeks ago, social media went nuts when a video circulated that apparently showed Sacha Baron Cohen dressed as Borat filming something in a pickup truck. This came after numerous reports of the actor posing as other characters and crashing interviews and public gatherings. Clearly, Baron Cohen is up to something. And that something appears to be “Borat 2.”
According to Collider, Sacha Baron Cohen has not only been working on “Borat 2,” but he’s actually already done. Not only that, but the report also claims that the actor has already assembled a rough cut of the film and screened it for industry types. Yep, it seems as if Baron Cohen’s “film everything in secret” style has struck again.
If true, this means “Borat 2” is not only in the works but way further along than anyone expected. Unfortunately, we don’t know too much about the film’s subject matter and/or release strategy. Clearly, there’s someone funding this venture, so the idea that Baron Cohen already has a streamer or some studio backing him is a high probability. The previous “Borat” feature had a number of production companies behind it and was eventually released by 20th Century Fox. Obviously, Disney isn’t likely going to back any “Borat” sequel, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Netflix or one of the other streaming companies with huge bank accounts funding the project.
Also, if there’s already a cut of the film that Sacha Baron Cohen is streaming for people, then there’s the distinct chance that we could be getting a release of the film sooner rather than later. Remember, when word got around that he was filming segments for what would become “Who is America?” the series was much further along than we all realized. The show would eventually premiere on Showtime within weeks and shocked us all. And considering we have a major US election coming in November, and Baron Cohen has already been seen at conservative rallies in character, it doesn’t sound too crazy to think that maybe “Borat 2” could be coming in time for the political shit to hit the fan this fall.

Regardless of when and where the film is released, the idea that “Borat 2” is coming soon is pretty damn exciting. Even though Baron Cohen has been steadily working since that feature was released, no one would argue that he’s been able to surpass the comedic heights of the original “Borat” since. Obviously, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this.
