Samuel L. Jackson To Return As Nick Fury In New Marvel Series Coming To Disney+

Just because the Marvel Cinematic Universe is entering a brand-new “Phase” with “Black Widow,” you didn’t really think Samuel L. Jackson was going anywhere, did you? The man who introduced the world to the Avengers Initiative way back in 2008’s “Iron Man” is apparently ready to suit up as Nick Fury at least one more time.

According to Variety, Jackson has signed on to star in a new Disney+ streaming series from Marvel Studios which will feature Nick Fury. It’s unclear what the title of the show is and if it is a Nick Fury-focused series, but the show is said to be written and executive produced by Kyle Bradstreet.

For those not keeping up with the current status of Nick Fury in the larger story of the MCU, the character was last seen in “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” In the film, it was revealed that the character is currently in space traveling with the Skrulls, while he has an imposter posing as him back on Earth. The exact nature of his mission is unclear, other than it appears that maybe the former head of SHIELD is looking to escape the madness on Earth for a bit.

Samuel L. Jackson has been perhaps the most consistent part of the MCU since 2008’s debut feature. He’s appeared in a number of films, though mostly in a supporting role. This would mark the first time that the character is truly given a starring role and chance to shine on his own. Of course, maybe this isn’t a “Nick Fury” TV series and will just have Fury, once again, playing second fiddle to another hero (a la “Captain Marvel”). But either way, more Samuel L. Jackson in the MCU is never a bad thing.

It’s unclear when we might see this series come to Disney+. Currently, Marvel Studios has its hands full with no fewer than seven major series, none of which have debuted. The first is set to be “WandaVision,” which is supposed to arrive later this year. After that, there are a half-dozen other shows that are in various stages of development, which means it could be a couple of years before we see Jackson’s new series.
