Another addition has been announced for the cast lineup of Mike Flanagan‘s new installment of “The Exorcist” franchise at Blumhouse/Universal Pictures. Actress Sasha Calle, who was previously seen in the Netflix crime thriller “The Rip,” and played a version of DC Comics‘ Supergirl in “The Flash,” has nabbed a part in the upcoming legacy horror flick.
That casting update hails from Deadline, as Calle will join the call sheet that already features an impressive lineup such as Scarlett Johansson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, and Jacobi Jupe (“Hamnet”).
Flanagan is set to both write and direct the next installment in what was originally planned as a trilogy from David Gordon Green (who was behind a new “Halloween” legacy trilogy) before the studio pivoted and decided to go with a new vision for the second film after the poor critical/audience reception for “The Exorcist: Believer.” Of course, Flanagan is no stranger to legacy hororr projects after tackling “Doctor Sleep,” a follow-up to Stanley Kubrick‘s iconic haunted hotel pic “The Shining.”
That’s not it for the filmmaker, as Flanagan co-wrote the script for the upcoming DC Studios and James Watkins-directed film “Clayface,” focused on the beloved and tragic Batman villain. He’s also behind a “remake” of the Stephen King story “The Mist,” but has telegraphed they’re going in a “different direction” from the original feature adaptation by Frank Darabont, and isn’t slowing down on his King material as he’s developing a series iteration of “Carrie” as well.
Audiences won’t have to wait too long before “The Exorcist” hits theaters as Universal has slated the horror pic for a release date of March 12, 2027.
