Shawn Levy Has Talked With Ryan Reynolds About A 'Stranger Things'/'Deadpool' Crossover

When you look at the biggest franchises on TV and film, you wouldn’t be wrong to say that TV is dominated by “Stranger Things” and film is dominated by Marvel Studios. In the middle of both of those worlds rests filmmaker Shawn Levy, who is one of the producers of “Stranger Things” and the director of the upcoming “Deadpool 3.” And, apparently, the filmmaker is taking notes and trying to figure out how to bring those two worlds together.

Speaking to Variety on the Emmys red carpet last night, Shawn Levy talked about his unique position as one of the filmmakers involved with both “Stranger Things” and the MCU. Levy understands the benefits of being in the room with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige, especially when it comes to constructing a huge franchise. This is something the filmmaker wants to bring to what he calls the “STCU,” aka the “Stranger Things” Cinematic Universe.

“Yes, we are building out the STCU, and now that I’m spending time with Kevin Feige, I’m learning a lot about how to manage a universe,” he explained. “So I’m taking those skills and applying them to the STCU.”

But that’s not all Levy is interested in doing. Whether it’s an impossibility or not, it would appear that the filmmaker and Ryan Reynolds (the star of the “Deadpool” franchise) are thinking about ways to link the two universes in some way.

“Funnily enough, Ryan and I were trying to figure out how in the world could we do a ‘Deadpool’-‘Stranger Things’ crossover,” Levy said. “We haven’t cracked it yet, but it’s on the table.”

Obviously, it wouldn’t be very difficult to have Deadpool say something about “Stranger Things” in “Deadpool 3.” The character is so meta and full of pop culture jokes that it wouldn’t be odd at all for him to mention the TV show. However, if they can somehow have Millie Bobby Brown show up as Eleven and sit next to Deadpool for a scene, that would be pretty surprising. But hey, if anyone can do it, Shawn Levy is probably that guy.

Or maybe it shouldn’t happen, right? The big question is what the future holds for “Stranger Things” after Season 5, which is going to begin production fairly soon and will be the final season. “Deadpool 3” doesn’t even have a release date yet, so by the time that film actually hits theaters (likely in 2024, at the earliest), maybe “Stranger Things” will be a distant memory.
