'Sister & Sister' Exclusive Trailer: Heartfelt Look At What It's Like To Be A Teenager Debuts At This Year's SXSW

As consumers of art, we are moved by certain themes or ideas, often leading us to experience inspiration or emotion. Regardless of the medium or whether that emotional reaction is positive or negative, that art we are presented made us feel something, hence making it memorable.

We can all probably list the films that have made us feel a deep, visceral emotion and left a lasting impact on us. In the past few years, there have been a handful of films that have had that effect on a wider audience– “Moonlight,” “Roma,” and “Slumdog Millionaire“ are a few that come to mind. After the March 11 premiere at SXSW, it’s likely that “Sister & Sister” will be included on that list as the trailer for the tender portrayal of teenage life left a rush of tranquility and an intense wave of nostalgia.

The film is a heartfelt tale of sisterhood that follows teen siblings, Marina and Luna, as they travel from Costa Rica to Panama during their summer vacation to look for their estranged father. Along the way, they experience friction and explore new friendships, lovers, and desires, as well as the simple joy of just hanging out.

“Sister & Sister” is the debut feature of director Kattia G. Zúñiga, who also wrote the semi-autobiographical film. It stars Ariana Chaves Gavilán, Cala Rossel Campos, Gabriela Man, Fernando Bonilla, Joshua De León, and Lía Jiménez. Alejo Crisóstomo finds himself behind the camera as the Director of Photography.
