Sony Developing Miniseries ‘Shattered’ About Hillary Clinton Campaign

The only people, it seems, who enjoy endlessly going over the story of last November’s election more than the massively insecure President Of The United States, are, it seems Hollywood executives. We already know that the next season of “American Horror Storywill be election-themed, the team behind “Recount” and “Game Change” are developing a miniseries based around the Clinton/Trump race last year, and Annapurna and “Hurt Locker” writer Mark Boal are developing a project as well.

And now, another book, one looking specifically at Clinton’s loss, is getting the limited series treatment, with Deadline reporting that “Shattered,” the recent bestseller from writers Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes, is heading to the small screen via Sony. The company’s TriStar subsidiary has teamed up with Davis Entertainment, who make “The Blacklist,” to turn the book, subtitled “Inside Hillary Clinton’s Doomed Campaign,” into a limited series at some point.

The book’s been controversial in some quarters for pointing the finger almost exclusively at Clinton, rather than at Russian interference, or Comey’s letter (which Nate Silver highlighted this week as the main reason for the election loss), or the inherent racism or sexism of a significant chunk of the American people. But while those things might have swung it, there’s no doubt that Clinton and her campaign made crucial errors, like not campaigning in states that turned out to be key, and there’s probably some value in examining those.

Will anyone actually want to live those traumatic experiences again as drama, though? More importantly, will they want to relive the election more than once on multiple networks and streaming services? We’d be surprised if all these projects made it to air: we’ll find out in the coming months if “Shattered” is one of them. It does at least have the advantage of having a title that makes it sound like an erotic thriller from the early 1990s starring Beverly D’Angelo and Mark Harmon, so it’s got that going for it.
