The announcement came during the Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic Con, which included an exclusive conversation with cast members Holly Hunter, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, Zoë Steiner, and Paul Giamatti, along with co-showrunners and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau.
In a surprise reveal, Stephen Colbert announced that he will voice the Academy’s Digital Dean of Students — an in-universe AI presence responsible for daily announcements, campus-wide alerts, and guiding students through their interstellar education.
“Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” follows a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a shared dream of hope, discovery, and service in Starfleet. Under the stern but inspiring leadership of their instructors, the cadets navigate intense rivalries, unexpected friendships, first loves, and a dangerous new threat that looms over both the Academy and the Federation.
The series stars Holly Hunter as the Chancellor of Starfleet Academy, alongside Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, and Bella Shepard as the cadets, with Zoë Steiner, Tig Notaro, Robert Picardo, and guest stars Oded Fehr and Mary Wiseman, plus recurring guest stars Gina Yashere and Paul Giamatti.
Created by Gaia Violo and co-showrun by Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, the series is executive produced by Violo, Kurtzman, Landau, Aaron Baiers, Olatunde Osunsanmi, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Frank Siracusa, and John Weber. The premiere episode is written by Violo and directed by Kurtzman. “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” is produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment, and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
As part of the announcement, Paramount+ also launched “StarfleetAcademy.com,” a new interactive hub where fans can explore the show’s fictional campus, browse Starfleet coursework, and “enroll” for exclusive updates and behind-the-scenes content.
With “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy,” the franchise enters a new era, blending youthful idealism, moral challenge, and cosmic adventure — all while reaffirming the Federation’s enduring mission: to boldly go where no one has gone before.
