'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Trailer: Anson Mount & Rebecca Romijn Star In 'Star Trek' Prequel & Spin-Off

If there is one core intrigue at the heart of the science-fiction franchise “Star Trek,” it is the thrill that comes from the exploration of new galaxies, lavish worlds, and fascinating alien species. Inside everyone is the drive “to boldly go where no man has gone before.”

If the show’s title is any indication, then the upcoming “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” from Paramount+ will be going all into that fascination. Previously teased with an onslaught of teasers and trailers revolving around the streaming service’s current “Star Trek” content (which you can explore here and below), the first full-fledged trailer for the show has arrived.

Most interesting in regards to the concept and placement of “Strange New Worlds” into the broader series, it serves as both a spin-off of the current “Star Trek: Discovery” as well as a prequel to the original “Star Trek,” following the adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise roughly a decade before the tenure of James T. Kirk on the iconic ship.

Bridging the gap between these two shows includes “Strange New Worlds,” featuring three central characters from both shows. Starring as its lead is Anson Mount (“Hell on Wheels,” “Inhumans”) as Captain of the Enterprise Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn (“X-Men,” “The Librarians”) as second-in-command Una Chin-Riley, better known as Number One, and Ethan Peck (“In Time,” “Halo 4”) as the half-human and half-Vulcan scientist Spock.

Rounding out the core cast of actors includes Babs Olusanmokun, Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Bruce Horak, and Melissa Navia.
