Got a Tip?

Steven Spielberg Reteams With John Williams For His Cold War Thriller, Which Now Has A Title

Spielberg, Bridge Of SpiesLike peanut butter and chocolate, Steven Spielberg and John Williams are meant to be together. The composer has worked on 26 of the director’s films, and that collaborative spirit will continue on the director’s next effort starring Tom Hanks, with the news confirmed by Williams’ fan club. But first, it looks like the movie now has a title.

“I have a film directed by Steven Spielberg starring Tom Hanks coming out called ‘Bridge of Spies,’ ” producer Marc Platt told The Daily Pennsylvanian. The title refers to a bridge that led from West Berlin to East Berlin’s Potsdam, where U.S. and Soviet forces often conducted prisoner exchanges during the Cold War.

The movie is a legal/espionage tale telling the true story of lawyer James Donovan, who is sent behind enemy lines by the CIA to negotiate the release of a U-2 pilot shot down and captured in Russia. At any rate, we now know what to call the movie that will be at the top of every awards prognosticator’s list between now and next fall. And why not? In case you forgot, the script has co-writing credits from Ethan and Joel Coen. Then again, so did "Unbroken"….

"Bridge Of Spies" (guess that other working title, "St. James Place," didn’t stick) arrives on October 16th. [via Slashfilm]
