Susan Sarandon To Star In Psychological Thriller Series 'Red Bird Lane' For HBO Max

HBO Max didn’t really blow minds with its original programming at launch. Sure, the addition of classic movies, the Studio Ghibli catalog and classic cartoons is all well and good, but we didn’t see an extensive slate of original shows except for “Raised by Wolves,” but that may change soon. HBO Max has just announced the first details for one of its new pilots, “Red Bird Lane.” This show will star Oscar-winner Susan Sarandon, and be directed by “Bandersnatch” director David Slade.

“Red Bird Lane” is described as a psychological thriller with a focus on morality. It follows eight strangers who arrive at an isolated house, all for different reasons, only to realize that something sinister and terrifying awaits them. The pilot comes from writer Sara Gran and is executive produced by John Wells.

Joining Susan Sarandon are Kiersey Clemons, Isidora Goreshter, Danny Huston, Ash Santos, Fiona Dourif, Dizzie Harris and Tara Lynne Barr.

Just like how Zendaya became Meechee, Sarandon will play Catherine, a welcoming hostess of the house who is brilliant, beautiful, and also a murderer. Clemons is set to play Jane, who lacks common sense despite having high intelligence, and who came to the house for drugs. Goreshter is Isabelle, a sophisticated and kind woman looking for pleasure. Huston is Hugh, an exhausted man of old money coming to the house for resolution. Santos will play Kesha, a soft-spoken, elegant, and hard as nails character looking to save a life. Dourif is cast as Mikki, who acts as Catherine’s cruel right-hand person who is in the house looking for fun. Harris will play the well-meaning Sam who came in looking for hope. Lastly, Barr will play the young and naive Rose, who is in the house out of desperation.
