'Tales Of Dunk & Egg': HBO Hires Steve Conrad To Write New 'Game Of Thrones' Prequel Series

Well, after being rumored for months now, it appears it’s official—the third attempt at a “Game of Thrones” spinoff series, “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” is moving ahead. Though, as we’ve seen with previous attempts, these proposed spinoffs aren’t always going to cross the finish line.

According to Variety, one of the many ‘Thrones’ spinoffs that HBO is desperately trying to get going, “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” is actually set to move ahead past pure development into actual script-writing and possibly a pilot. The new series follows in the footsteps of the failed attempt of “The Long Night” and the upcoming release of “House of the Dragon,” and will possibly be the next “Game of Thrones” spinoff to take the prequel route when telling more stories of Westeros.

For those unfamiliar with the extended works of George R.R. Martin and his “Song of Ice and Fire,” the “Tales of Dunk and Egg” series is based on a series of stories about Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and a young Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years prior to the events of “Game of Thrones.” And if you’ve seen the show, you know Aegon V Targaryen would eventually go on to become King and would see his bloodline continue all the way through to his granddaughter, Daenerys Targaryen, and his great-grandson, Jon Snow.

The new series is set to be written and produced by Steve Conrad. The writer is probably best known for his scripts for films such as “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” and “The Pursuit of Happyness.” More recently, he’s been working in the realm of TV, where he’s written and produced for series such as “Patriot” and “Perpetual Grace, LTD.”

‘Dunk and Egg’ is far from the only other ‘Thrones’ spinoff that is in the works. In addition to this show, it’s been reported that HBO is in the early stages on potential animated spinoffs, as well as live-action shows tentatively titled “10,000 Ships” and “Sea Snake.”

“House of the Dragon” is set to arrive on HBO in 2022.
