‘TÁR’ Trailer: Cate Blanchett Stars As A World-Renowned Musician For Director Todd Field

Todd Field has come back into the world of cinema and television for the first time in sixteen years. His last movie, “Little Children,” was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay but did not direct anything else until now, with the upcoming release of “TÁR.” The director was, however, attached to multiple projects in between “Little Children” and “TÁR,” but those never came to fruition.

For example, he was once attached to an adaptation of “The Creed of Violence,” which was set to star Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, and Daniel Craig. In a full circle moment, Field is now currently working with DiCaprio, who will executive produce “Devil in the White City” with Martin Scorsese. Field has been tapped to direct all episodes of the upcoming Hulu limited series, which will star Keanu Reeves as Daniel H. Burnham.

Field is now making a serious return to filmmaking and has enlisted Cate Blanchett as his lead star for his upcoming film, “TÁR,” in what looks to be a serious awards contender. In fact, the movie will have its world premiere at the 79th edition of the Venice International Film Festival, which will take place from August 31 to September 10.

With “TÁR,” Field tells the story of “world-renowned musician Lydia Tár (Cate Blanchett), who is just days away from recording the symphony that will take her to the very heights of her already formidable career. Lydia Tár’s remarkably bright and charming six-year-old adopted daughter Petra has a key role to play here. And when elements seem to conspire against Lydia, the young girl is an important emotional support for her struggling mother.”

Other than Blanchett, the film stars Nina Hoss, Noémie Merlant, Mark Strong, Sophie Kauer, Julian Glover, and Allan Corduner. Hildur Guðnadóttir, the Academy Award-winning composer of “Joker,” has written the score, and obviously music will be huge to this film. Written and directed by Field, “TÁR” will be distributed by Focus Features and will release exclusively in theatres on October 7.
