Hulu already had one acclaimed political thriller TV show this year in “Paradise.” Does it have another with “Tempest“? Based on its trailer, the Korean original series shows a great deal of promise, and could be a sleeper hit for the streamer when it premieres early this Fall.

In “Tempest,” an assassination attempt on a presidential candidate triggers a multinational conspiracy that threatens the stability of the Korean peninsula…and may even lead to the White House.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Tempest,” courtesy of Hulu:
Featuring one of the most impressive international line-ups in a Korean drama to date, Tempest follows Seo Munju, a skilled former diplomat, as she tries to uncover the truth behind an attempt on a presidential candidate’s life. After discovering the candidate was accused of being a North Korean spy, Munju digs into his past, unlocking a Pandora’s box of deception, state secrets and more. Protected by Paik Sanho, a mercenary with a suspicious history and a hidden backer, Munju repeatedly finds herself under attack as she uncovers an international conspiracy stretching all the way to the White House. But, with danger drawing ever closer, will Sanho be able to keep his principal safe and his emotions in check?
“Tempest” stars Gianna Jun, Gang Dongwon, John Cho, Lee Misook, Park Haejoon, Christopher Gorham, Michael Gaston, and Spencer Garrett.
Kim Heewon directs “Tempest,” with Korea’s leading martial arts director Heo Myeonghaeng co-directing. “Decision To Leave” co-writer Chung Seokyung pens the series. “Tempest” is an Imaginus production, in association with Showrunners, AA, and Skydance.
The first three episodes of “Tempest” premiere on Hulu on September 10, followed by two episodes premiering every Wednesday for its nine-episode run. Watch a trailer for the series below.
